Trail Guides Back in Action!
As part of our class project, my team and I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge, helping create informational trail guide videos for new visitors. It was an incredible experience that combined service, education, and the outdoors — all things that are important to me.
Over the course of our work, we successfully completed three separate trail guide videos. Each video was designed to help visitors better understand the landscape they were exploring, highlighting key features of the trails and pointing out both native and non-native plant species. One example we covered was the Chinese privet, an invasive plant that poses a threat to the native ecosystem. Being able to explain the differences between plants that belong and those that don’t made me realize how important it is to actively protect and maintain natural areas like this one.
While filming, we also had some pretty incredible wildlife encounters. We spotted multiple alligators along the riverbanks, which made for both exciting footage and some very cautious walking! We also saw deer quietly moving through the brush, hawks soaring overhead, and even ran into a few (very large and slightly terrifying) spiders along the trails. Every step of the way, nature reminded us that we were visitors in its home.
Creating these videos wasn’t just about pointing a camera and talking — it was about making the Nature Center more welcoming and informative for future visitors. We wanted people to not just enjoy the trails but to truly understand the importance of the land, the plants, and the animals that live there.
This project deepened my appreciation for places like the Fort Worth Nature Center, and it made me even more committed to encouraging outdoor education and conservation efforts. Being able to combine volunteering with spending time in nature felt meaningful, and I’m proud that our videos will help new visitors feel more connected to the trails from the moment they arrive.

Thanks, this is a nice review of your Nature Center experiences.
